Belfry


This is the most distinctive landmark in Bruges. The belfry is 83 meters (272 feet) high and has a slight lean towards the southeast. It is the very best bell tower in Belgium. It is one of the main impressive symbols of Belgian civilians. Maintained inside the church is a crystal vial prestigious to contain a drop of Christ’s blood brought back from the Holy Land by Dietrich of Alasce in 1149 on his return from the second crusade. From this has created the traditional parade of the Holy Blood when each year in May the sacred remnant is carried out through the streets of Bruges.
